Arbiter Pay Issuing 1099s Update

Beginning with tax year 2022, Arbiter Pay is required by the IRS under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to issue 1099s to ALL officials and workers who have been paid $600 or more through Arbiter Pay. This means payors can no longer opt-out of Arbiter Pay issuing 1099s on their behalf.

We strongly recommend that payors no longer include Arbiter Pay payments on its 1099s to prevent double reporting.

Please keep in mind that all payors are still responsible for issuing 1099s for any payments made outside of Arbiter Pay.

When will I get my 1099?

All Officials and workers who were paid more than $600 combined through Arbiter Pay will receive an email notification when their 1099 is available for download around mid-to-end of January.

Where do I view and download my 1099 form?

An email notification will be sent out to all officials and workers if they meet the requirements for receiving a 1099 as soon as it's available. The email includes a clickable link that is unique to each individual that takes you to a page where you can securely download your 1099. This does not require you to log in to your ArbiterSports account (if you have one). After you click on the link or copy and paste the URL to your browser, a page will open where you will be prompted to confirm your SSN and download your 1099.

Since workers don’t have an ArbiterSports account, workers can only view and download their 1099 by clicking on the  link in the email notification.

Officials have two options to download their 1099.
The first option is to click on the link in the email notification and download your 1099 (as mentioned above).
The second option is to sign in and download from the Payments tab. That can be done by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to your official account on ArbiterSports.com.
  2. Click on the Payments tab.
  3. Click on the 1099's sub-tab.
  4. Click the Download button.

Important Note: ArbiterSports CANNOT email or mail your 1099 form to you. ArbiterSports also CANNOT download or print your 1099 for you. The only way to access your 1099 is using one of the two options mentioned above. All officials and workers are responsible for downloading their own 1099.

How can I access prior years' 1099s?

Prior years' 1099s are accessed the same way as mentioned above. Please note that you will only be able to access 1099s from up to three years prior to the current year. ArbiterSports cannot retrieve 1099s from years prior to that.

How do I get a breakdown of payments on my 1099?

To see a breakdown of your payments on any given 1099, you will need to sign in to your ArbiterSports account. Here's how to do this:

  1. Sign in to your official account on ArbiterSports.com.
  2. Click on the Payments tab.
  3. Click on the 1099's sub-tab.
  4. Click the Download button for the 1099 in question.

Who issues my 1099?

ArbiterSports will issue you a 1099 if you were paid $600 or more by schools/organizations through Arbiter Pay. All payments through Arbiter Pay will be combined into a single 1099 reported under Arbiter Pay's TIN.

If you were paid offline (cash, check, or another payment service, not through Arbiter Pay), you could receive a 1099 from the school/organization that paid you since ArbiterSports does not handle 1099s for offline payments.

Why does my SSN need to be entered on my Arbiter profile?

ArbiterSports requires a TIN (either SSN or EIN) for all payees in order to file properly with the IRS. This is stored on your profile to ensure accurate filing with the IRS.

Why did I not receive a 1099?

This could happen for a few reasons:

  • You received less than $600 combined from payors who paid you through Arbiter Pay.

    • Note: Any offline payments would not be included on a 1099 from ArbiterSports.

  • You did not have a SSN or EIN on your ArbiterSports profile.

  • You were paid offline (outside of Arbiter Pay).

    • If you were paid offline (cash, check, or another payment service), you could receive a 1099 from the school/organization that paid you offline. You would need to contact the school/organization regarding a 1099 for any offline payments as ArbiterSports does not handle those.

What should I do if something on my 1099 is incorrect?

If the amount on your 1099 is wrong, you will need to reach out to the school/organization that paid you and have them submit a correction request to ArbiterSports' Support. After they reach out to us with these requests, we will make corrections and issue corrected 1099s to those payees that need them.

ArbiterSports CANNOT make amount corrections based on an official's request. The correction request must come from the payor.

Why does ArbiterSports issue 1099s even though I don’t work for them?

ArbiterSports is required by the IRS under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to issue 1099s to ALL payees who have been paid $600 or more through Arbiter Pay. The IRS has made this change recently and requires third-party payment platforms such as Arbiter Pay to report 1099 earnings.
